INTERESTED IN SCIENCE? Apply for this great event!

Monday, November 16, 2009
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, Viterbo University will host its annual "Exploring Science through Forensics" Day for sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in science.

This is a full day of science, teamwork, sleuthing and fun! Participants will be put into teams, introduced to a case, given evidence and information and set loose in the Viterbo labs with the assistance of Viterbo University science professionals, to find out "who done it!"

You may get fingerprints and DNA or mystery particles and fingernails.

Teams will decide on a suspect and then prepare and present a PowerPoint presentation to the group. Top teams will win prizes ranging from cool college gear to scholarships!

This event is open to sophomores and juniors (and seniors who have applied or will apply to Viterbo). THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 15!!!

APPLY ONLINE AT https://www.viterbo.edu/secure.aspx?ekfrm=50584 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF INTERESTED!

Students who meet the criteria will be admitted on a rolling basis. Students who do not meet the criteria will be admitted in December if space allows:

* Interest in a career in science, medical-related field, or field related to forensics (forensics, criminal justice, history for example)
* Year in school (sophomore minimum, junior or senior preferred) Note: If a senior, preference will be given to Viterbo applicants
* Ability to attend the entire day
* High school GPA above 3.0
* Diversity of high schools represented (we will strive to include students from different high schools in the region)

Applicants will be notified of their admittance to the program on a rolling basis (note: we will likely not be able to accept all applicants based on high demand for this program).

Students selected for the program will be required to:
* Sign a waiver form (if under 18, a parent or guardian must sign).
* Arrange transportation to the event (lunch and all materials will be provided free of charge).
* Obtain permission from teachers and guardians to miss school for this event.
